Humans can contract ringworm from animals; cats and dogs are often carriers.

People can get Ringworm from:

Pet Ringworm

1) direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person or pet.  You can contract ringworm from your dog or cat who has animal ringworm. (For more information on cat ringworm or deog ringworm please see the Ringworm in Pets page.)

2) indirect contact with an object or surface that an infected person or pet has touched, such as hats, combs, brushes, bedlinens, stuffed animals, telephones, gym mats and shower stalls.

3) rarely, by contact with soil.

It should be noted that any contact sports such as wrestling have a risk of contracting the fungal infection through skin-to-skin contact.

Anyone can get Ringworm; it is very common, especially among children.
